Take one jazz composer with respect for the tradition and an ear for modern classical music, add 12 supremely talented jazz musicians, and you get one band that uniquely blends notated and improvised music into an experience that moves fellow musician and non-musician alike.

THE DAVE RIVELLO ENSEMBLE is a twelve-piece modern jazz orchestra playing new and original music. The ensemble, led by composer/conductor Dave Rivello, includes a standard jazz rhythm section (piano, bass, drums) three reed players and six brass (including flugelhorn and tuba).

The Dave Rivello Ensemble was formed in 1993 by composer/conductor Dave Rivello as a vehicle for his original work, whose members are among the top players in Rochester. Past performances include Saint Peter’s Church in New York City, many appearances at the Rochester International Jazz Festival, with Bob Brookmeyer, a week-long residency at Proctor’s Theater in Schenectady New York, Cornell University, Alfred University, Monroe Community College Jazz Festival, Coudersport Fine Arts Festival, annual concerts in Kilbourn Hall at the Eastman School of Music, several appearances on the Bop Shop record store’s concert series, and WGMC’s ‘Meet The Artist’ series. The ensemble includes some of the best musicians in Rochester and is continuing to be more in demand for festivals and clinics. Dave Rivello was voted ‘Best Big Band Leader’ by City Newspaper for his work with this ensemble.
