Joyce Castle, mezzo-soprano (MM,’66; Distinguished Alum, 2004) returns to Eastman for her 50 year reunion during Meliora Weekend and will be the Guest Performer on the Virtuosi Concert, October 7, at 8 p.m. in Kilbourn Hall. Barry Snyder will play for her – having played for her Master’s concert in 1966!
Since her professional debut at the San Francisco Opera in 1970 Joyce Castle has sung worldwide in opera, concert, musical comedy and cabaret. A Grammy winner for her performance in Bernstein’s Candide, she was a leading artist at New York City Opera for twenty-five seasons and at the Metropolitan Opera for fourteen seasons. Celebrated composers Jake Heggie and William Bolcom have written song cycles for Miss Castle. While continuing her very long career she is University Distinguished Professor of Voice at her first alma mater, the University of Kansas.

The Faculty Artist Series is generously supported by Patricia Ward-Baker.

This concert is part of the 2016 University of Rochester Meliora Weekend celebrations.
