Five-time Grammy Award-winning soprano Kathleen Battle and her longtime collaborator, pianist Joel Martin, join forces to present a program entitled “Underground Railroad: A Spiritual Journey.” The concert, which explores traditional slave spirituals and the writings of abolitionists Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass, also features the Rochester Festival Chorus conducted by Eastman alumnus Jason Holmes. Selected writings of Tubman and Douglass will be narrated by actors Nora Cole and David Shakes, both of whom are starring in Geva Theatre’s upcoming production of To Kill a Mockingbird.
